Newport News, VA – On February 11, 2011 The Spectrum Foundation participated in a Chili Cook Off organized by members of the Fort Monroe Spouse’s and Civilian’s Club. The event also consisted of a silent auction in which local hand-made artwork, privately prepared food and wine pairing for two were the featured items of the evening.

The chili cook off was filled with some of the most tantalizing country western recipes. Some of the recipes were sweet, while others were spicy. There was something to please everyone’s palate; some recipes were made from chicken, beef and sausage. The evening was filled with lots of laughter as some of the members of the club performed mini shows prior to the auction presentations. The event was packed with good food, fun-filled entertainment and great people.

As the evening came to an end, Spectrum’s own Charles Smith presented a $2,500 check to the Fort Monroe Spouse’s and Civilian’s Club, on behalf of the Spectrum Foundation. This donation will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project Run which will take place on April 2, 2011.

Jeff Wassmer, Spectrum Foundation President noted, “When we established the Spectrum Foundation we were looking for ways to not only support local charitable organizations but also events and organizations that would benefit and support our military,” he continues, “This run, organized by the Fort Monroe Spouse’s and Civilian’s Club, is a unique pairing of both and we are glad to support such a worthy event and organization.”
