On Feb 10, 2009, Spectrum participated in the first-ever VPCC Leadership Institute Youth Career Expo at the Hampton Roads Convention Center in Hampton, Virginia. This event, put on by the Leadership Institute Class of 2009 served as the class project for the year helping over 3,500 teens gather the skills needed to succeed in finding employment. Spectrum’s LI representatives included: Executive Vice President/COO Anthoney Stoney and Director of Technology Solutions Mike Nickerson. The duo headed up the event along with several other class members.

Throughout the day high school and college students toured the Convention Center learning valuable skills on how to dress, interviewing and resume writing. Booths were set up for students to talk with employers and mock interviews were held to give the students real-life experience. Students dressed for success in business suits and saw first-hand what it would be like in the real world applying for a job. Overall students walked away with a sense of accomplishment and confidence for the future.

With the help of six Peninsula School Divisions and hundreds of local employers, the inaugural event was a major success. The class hopes that this will become a yearly event, and looks forward to making it even bigger and better next year.

Spectrum thanks all of its employees for their participation in making the event a success!
