On Tuesday July 26, Spectrum President & CEO Jeff Wassmer was sworn into office as a Commissioner of the Virginia Port Authority. Jeff was appointed by Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell and will serve on the 12 member Board of Commissioners which oversees the 43 billion dollar shipping industry within the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The Board of Commissioners is guided by the Port Authority’s Vision: The Port of Virginia will be the primary gateway for international cargo transported through the Mid-Atlantic and Mid-West regions of the United States. The Virginia Port Authority will promote economic development and stimulate job growth within the Commonwealth through international trade.

Jeff states, “I am excited for this new challenge ahead of us. I have no doubt with our business experience and combined knowledge that we will increase the cargo growth levels. As an entrepreneur, I have met many challenges and possible setbacks and have worked hard to find the best way forward for Spectrum and our employee-owners – efficiently, ethically, and fairly. I will put my best foot forward with this new appointment and offer the same dedication here.”
